Geo learning

1. Geo-Learning-Geography and Education (video and information)

2. Geo-geothermal education office (activities, handouts, presentations for teachers to download free or buy)

3. National Geographic- Geo Literacy (excellent video and understanding)

The world around us is changing and we need our students to see things the way they really are. How decisions people make can affect many others. Students can better understand how they can make a difference and that their decisions are important in life. Interactions with people and the environment is something that should be seen. How do we get from one place to the other? How do we transport goods from a specific location to another location? With technology this is now possible to show students how the train takes the tracks or how the truck follows the freeway and what do the cities look like that they are going to. Showing the students streets, cities, indoor and outdoor buildings’ creates learning. Geo learning information can be uploaded by any person. It creates more of a “being there” feeling for the students.

  1. Thanks for the post about Geo Learning! I was having a difficult time understanding exactly what this was all about. I think that it is very useful to be able to not only talk to the students about a location, culture, or people, but to actually be able to show them through virtual technologies what it looks like. It is much more engaging and fulfilling for both the students and the teacher!

  2. I agree with UnCouerNoir!

Teaching students about location and culture are very difficult for Social Studies educators. Many of my students have trouble grasping how geography shapes culture. The uploading of this information by any person makes it even more interesting!

  3. Great information and resources Amy! Thanks for the information. These virtual technologies can be really useful and beneficial to student's gaining a sound understanding about various places, cultures, and people. Furthermore with this understanding students are able to sustain tolerance, knowledge, and build a schema with meaningful and real-life interactions. It amazes me how many useful tools and engaging activities there are available in our world today. I have always had difficulty learning about location and geography. This tool is even going to assist me!
