Vocabulary lesson with authors Rick and Evangeline Newton

 What is a root? What does a root do? 
The smallest part of a word that carries meaning. This helps grow your vocabulary. 
A semantic unit _an;Tan, Man, Can, Fan, Cannot 

Roots functions: 
Prefix-before the word, they are directional.                                           Re-  ev-
Base-middle of the word, word family. Literal or figurative (metaphor)        Volut
Suffix-end of the word,                                                                             -Ion

RE:Latin                                        RE: English (Latinate)
Dead language.                             Alive.
Narrow and specialized.                General, Ubiquitous.
Smart.                                          Equalitarian.
Academic.                                    

Prefixes:
